Well, what appeared as a closing of the site has instead turned into something bigger and better for it. I am
very pleased to announce that Rombie from New-Blood.com has accepted my offer to join
me as co-webmaster here at Resident Evil Fan. This news is big for the site, as Rombie is one of the original pioneers
of the Resident Evil online community, and has set the standard high the past few years at New-Blood. His
arrival promises to make Resident Evil Fan one of, if not the largest Resident Evil-based site on the internet.
How did this all come about you ask? Why did I change my mind on closing the site? Basically here's a summary of events as they happened:
I made the announcement to close the site with full intention on doing just that. Within the first day I started to
receive a flood of emails, all asking that I not close the site. I also received several offers from people willing to take
over the site. Up to this moment I've received about 300 emails of this nature. So I started to think that maybe I should try and find
someone to take over. But who?
Then Rombie and I had a talk. He expressed his disbelief in the news that the site would be closing. He started to send me links from all sorts of various
forums on the internet with people talking about the closing. Then during our conversation, somehow we started talking about an old offer I made to him probably over a year or so ago.
I said to him "if you ever decide to shut down New-Blood for any reason or another, there's always a spot for you at RE Fan". At that time he wasn't ready to accept such an offer,
but under different circumstances today that offer was now being considered. He asked if it was still available. I'm sure you can gather that my answer was yes.
So I changed my mind. I changed it because I now have someone who can share the load of the website, which frees up my time a bit, but also
keeps the website at a high level. So in a sense, I get to have my cake and eat it too. RE Fan now has two webmasters.
Plans for branding the site as well as any new content are in the works. Stay tuned for future enhancements. Thanks for visiting with us, and sorry for
freaking everyone out with the goodbye announcement. I promise if it happens again it will be permanent.

And now I'd like to turn the stage over to Rombie to say a few words:
Yes, the short of this bit of news is to say Resident Evil Fan is not
going anywhere. Roody isn't closing Resident Evil Fan. Nor am I closing
New Blood... exactly... instead we're merging the sites to keep both of
them running.
As Roody explained, a discussion I got into with him kinda made me realize
it was the lack of onsite help and time that was the major force behind
the closure of the website due at the end of the month. We'd previously
talked in the past about if ever I felt like leaving my own site behind,
then there was always a staffing position here. This was now going. I
expected to be closing New Blood long before Resident Evil Fan would ever
disappear. One of those things you expect to happen, so you're really
surprised when it looks like it won't be the case. Once the announcement
was made especially, I realized just how many people would miss this site
once it would be gone... and it was after this we got into talking about
merging our sites. I really wanted to see this excellent fan resource
stay online, apparently even if it meant making a tiny sacrifice to do
so. I'm sure all you fans of the site will be happy when you see this.
Of course this wasn't the easiest choice I've had to make in the past
4 years or so of doing New Blood, don't get me wrong about that. I had
to consider numerous factors - my content, visitors, forums, my host.
4 years of work of which I had to consider leaving a lot of it behind
me. I talked to heaps of people about the idea for their comments, and
I still couldn't come to a final choice on the matter. Eventually what
made the choice for me, more or less, was the reasoning that I wasn't
able to continue running my own site to the levels I was currently due
to outside forces. It wasn't actually the worst thing ever to actually
finally have a reason to make a change, so I'm glad for it.
Anyway, what does this mean exactly for the site? Well all of Resident
Evil Fan's excellent content, interactive features, and forums will stay.
The media will also stay. What will be added? Well heaps more additional
content for one. I'll be adding most of the detailed content from the
sections at New Blood into the mix. I'll be handling most of the news
and updates. Roody will continue to oversee the entire project and also
handle the forums with his team there as they always have.
As Roody stated, we still haven't entirely worked out the specifics just
yet. The branding for the site, names, design or anything. Right now,
everything is going to stay as is until we can organize the details. Currently
some behind the scenes alterations are being made for the benefit of the
work I'm going to be doing for the site, but any other changes, especially
those which are cosmetic for the site, will have to wait.
We both hope the fans of the site and series are extremely happy to see
the site isn't going anywhere, and I'm personally hoping the fans of my
own site aren't too offput by the move to here. Roody and I are planning
to hopefully include everything which made both sites as well known as
they are, as well as to continue bringing the same style of content you're
used to. As well as hope to extend the amount of information and entertainment
for the Resident Evil fan online further than it's ever been before.
